When I began to shoot more than three decades ago, I felt that mine and a lot of other photographers fashion photography lacked vibrancy and realism. The models were and are still being turned into nothing more than showroom dummies. I have set about to change all that.
I wanted to achieve greater levels of energy, emotion and realism in my own fashion images but, I didn’t know how to achieve this. I spent a great deal of time experimenting with my directing and found that the best way to achieve any level of energy and emotion in my images was to express and portray the level of energy and emotion that I wanted with my own energy and emotion, etc etc.
I shoot a wide variety of work ranging from bathing suits on location to bridal wear in the studio. I approach this wide gamut of fashion with this in mind “Pictures need to have a purpose, and that starts with the clients wishes and needs to achieve when the images are viewed or used for what ever purpose they are shot for.. So, I find out the motive for the shots, be it romantic, sexy, sensual or soft, lively, exciting or dramatic.
Once I understand the feelings that the client needs, I can add the energy and emotion that’s appropriate to the subject into my directing during my shoots, whether it’s bridal gowns or underwear.”
During my talks and demonstrations, I will express, demonstrate and explain how I achieve energy and emotion in my own images.
